PSOD represents PHL, joins Rare Disease Day Policy Event at the United Nations
NEW YORK CITY – Last February 22, 2019 (PHL Time), the NGO Committee for Rare Diseases together with its partners AGRENSKA, EURORDIS and Rare Diseases International organized a Policy Event at the United Nations Headquarters held in observance of Rare Disease Day. The event attended by the international NGO community, rare disease advocates, dignitaries and officials from various countries aimed to launch the NGO Committee’s call for the integration of rare diseases in the upcoming UN political declaration on universal health coverage (UHC), and the call for a UN resolution on rare diseases.
PSOD President Mrs. Cynthia Magdaraog represented the country and PSOD as she was invited to be one of the speakers in the fourth session of the policy event entitled “Ensuring inclusion and participation of people living with a rare disease through national policies and strategies”. During her talk, Mrs. Magdaraog shared the progress done in the Philippines on integrating rare diseases to the National Health System. She also updated the panel on the salient features of the PHL Rare Diseases Act and the recent enactment of the Universal Health Care Act.
