In line with the Celebration of the National Disability, Prevention and Rehabilitation Week on July 17-23, the Lipa City Sangguniang Panlusod Committee on Persons with Disability headed by Councilor Concon Hernandez organized a seminar for PWD Coordinators on rare disorders. Entitled “Orphan Disorders?”, the seminar aims to provide the PWD Coordinators with basic information about rare disorders to be able to identify individuals in their community possibly afflicted with a rare disorder and to refer them to PSOD and other partner agencies.

Dr. Sylvia Estrada of the UP-NIH Institute of Human Genetics and board member of PSOD discusses the medical profile of some of the rare diseases identified by the doctors of the Institute of Human Genetics and provided useful info for the PWD Coordinators to help refer children possibly afflicted with rare disorders to affiliated medical practitioners in Lipa City.

Held on July 23, 2012, 9-11am at the LMMMC Hall, Calleja Building of the Mary Mediatrix Medical Center in Lipa City, the seminar was organized in Partnership with The Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders, Inc. (PSOD), Mary Mediatrix Medical Center, Children’s Development and Intervention Center, De La Salle Lipa Alumni Association, Councilor Concon Hernandez and the Lipa City Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Persons with Disability.
