The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth) and Sanofi-Aventis Philippines Incorporated, in cooperation with the Department of Health, organized the first ‘Wealth for Health Summit’, a one-day forum that seeks to create a continuing platform where various stakeholders can discuss critical health care financing issues and identify specific areas of cooperation. Major components of the summit include sessions on public and private resources currently or expected to be available for the many aspects of the universal health.
PSOD along with representatives from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office’s Charity and Fund Allocation, Development Bank of the Philippines, Philippine Children’s Medical Center, Philippine Business for Social Progress, 162 to 52 Coalition, Philex Mining Corp, Roots for Health, Project Laan, and the Philippine Foundation for Vaccination/Philippine Society for Microbiology and Infectious Diseases presented current and proposed models for financing health care projects and programs from both the demand and supply side. During her presentation, Ms Cynthia Magdaraog, PSOD President, also made an appeal to DOH and Philhealth to cover rare disease in their universal health program and Catastrophic Disease coverage.
According to the organizers, the summit also served as a matching opportunity for national and local governments, private companies, corporate foundations, foreign embassies, international organizations, NGOs and patient groups towards achieving universal health care.
The ‘Wealth for Health Summit’ was held on July 31, 2012 at the Development Academy of the Philippines.
